India–EU Mobility Pact: A New Framework, Not a Shortcut Visa

India and the EU have finalized a draft Comprehensive Mobility Pact targeting provisional entry into force on July 1, 2026 — but it still needs legal scrubbing and ratification, and it changes nothing for applicants immediately.

India and the European Union finalized a draft Comprehensive Mobility Pact in January 2026, aiming for provisional entry into force on July 1, 2026 and full implementation by early 2027. It still needs legal scrubbing, translation, and ratification by both the European Parliament and the Indian Cabinet — so the timeline can slip.

A framework, not a single new visa

It's important to be precise about what this pact actually is: a policy framework covering several pillars, not one new visa category. Those pillars include streamlined work-visa cooperation for shortage occupations, mutual recognition of professional qualifications, and a student-mobility track that carries up to three years of post-study work rights.

A specific win for traditional-medicine practitioners

One concrete provision: the pact would let Indian traditional-medicine practitioners — Ayurveda, Yoga, and related disciplines — provide services in EU member states using their original Indian qualifications, without needing separate EU credentialing.

  • Draft pact finalized January 2026
  • Provisional entry into force targeted for July 1, 2026; full implementation by early 2027
  • Still requires legal scrubbing, translation, and ratification by the European Parliament and Indian Cabinet
  • Key pillars: shortage-occupation work-visa cooperation, mutual qualification recognition, student mobility with up to 3 years' post-study work rights
  • Indian Ayurveda/Yoga practitioners could serve in EU states on original Indian qualifications
What this means for Globaris candidates

Nothing changes immediately for applicants today — Poland case requirements remain exactly what they are right now. But over the next 12–18 months, credential recognition and processing times for shortage occupations could genuinely improve. It's worth tracking as it moves through ratification, without changing any plans in the meantime.
